Bio for Kathy Slick
Kathy Slick has been
passionately pursuing the piano since the young age of 4, when she would come
home from
Sunday School and try to pick out songs by ear, begging for lessons from
her mother. Later, her idea of fun was to sit at the piano for hours and play
through the entire hymnal. In high school once each year, she and her
twin sister switched
identities and went through the school day pretending to be the other. Karen
played clarinet, and Kathy played violin, so Karen had the more difficult time
pretending to know how to position and play the violin. Since the age of 11,
she has followed in her mother's footsteps as a piano teacher, church organist
(when her feet would not even reach the pedals), and as an accompanist for
churches, schools, and musicals. Kathy earned many awards in high school,
including the Frederic Chopin
Piano Award, and studied piano and organ at
Ball State University, graduating with a BA in Organ Performance. She
has been married for 33 years to Kent, has 6 children and 2 grandchildren,
currently teaches private piano lessons, and accompanies at Colleyville Middle
School and Arlington Presbyterian
Church.
